Abstract

PT Kewalram Indonesia Unit 1 is a manufacturing company engaged in the textile sector. This company produces various types of yarn to meet the needs of the textile industry. The constraints that often occur are in the production of double yarn which experiences delays due to the production flow that is not optimally organized. The main problem is the distance between departments that are far apart, which increases the Material Handling Cost (OMH) and hinders the smoothness of production. The initial layout shows a total material movement distance of 462.81 meters with OMH costs reaching Rp24,665,000.00 per month. This study aims to redesign the facility layout in the Murata Vortex Spinning (MVS) yarn spinning process using the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method. Analysis is carried out on the relationship between activities and material movement flows to obtain two alternative proposed layouts. The first proposal results in a total movement distance of 61 meters with OMH of Rp3,212,564.42 per month. The second proposal resulted in a 67-meter movement with an OMH of Rp3,534,538.18 per month. The research results showed that the first proposed layout was chosen because it provided maximum efficiency and was easier to implement. Overall, the SLP method was proven to significantly reduce material movement distance and reduce OMH costs by 86.98%, thus effectively increasing production process efficiency
